what can i expect from my first visit?

During the initial visit, a full health history intake will be taken. Questions will be asked about the chief complaint(s) in addition to general questions about your health and lifestyle. During the exam we will perform Chinese medical diagnostic tests, including checking your Chinese pulse and looking at your tongue. This information will be used to determine an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis in Chinese medicine.

How long is each appointment?

The initial appointment is scheduled for 90 minutes, which includes a full intake and acupuncture treatment. Each subsequent appointment can last anywhere between 45 to 60 minutes, and will consist of a brief check-in or re-evaluation followed by an acupuncture treatment.

how should i prepare for my first visit?

Please print and fill out the intake form on our contact page and bring it with you. This allows you time to complete your forms at your own pace and gather any medical records you might need. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to acupuncture points. We also provide towels for proper drapery if needed.

is acupuncture safe?

Yes! Acupuncture is a non-invasive treatment that is well known for its efficacy and lack of side effects. All needles are single-use disposable. If you have any safety questions, please ask, we only want you to feel comfortable.

does acupuncture hurt?

You might feel a slight pinch upon insertion of the needle, which is sometimes compared to a bug bite. Upon obtaining the proper stimulation of the needle, you may feel a mild heaviness or pressure. This sensation is the qi sensation we are looking for and is indicative of the therapeutic effect of the needles.

how many treatments will i need?

The number of treatments necessary will depend on the duration and severity of your condition. Some conditions may be treated within two to three visits, whereas others may take several weeks to months. Preventative treatments are recommended seasonally.

do you accept health insurance?

Yes. We accept a wide range of health insurance plans but it depends on your coverage and whether or not your plan has acupuncture benefits. We are happy to check this for you just ask!

what forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check and credit. If you have insurance coverage, we bill your insurance directly. Many patients use their health or flex spending accounts towards acupuncture treatments as well.
